SALISBURY, Md. – Some people in Wicomico County say the Salisbury Coronavirus Recovery Task Force has made a significant impact on the Haitian community.
Natalie Saint-Phard a member of the task force tells 47ABC the coronavirus pandemic magnified several issues that many Haitians here are facing like not getting enough resources and not being able to find the information they need in their own language.
She says the task force also helped city officials further their reach in the community with more translators and we’re told that bringing these kinds of conversations to the table has been a huge help.
“The city especially in different institutions realize the importance of inclusion and making sure that everything is translated and readily accessible to different communities,” said Saint-Phard.
“So, I think this has the potential to be a very being a long term thing,” said Saint-Phard.
According to Saint-Phard, things like transportation issues still need to be addressed.
However, she says city officials are hard at work to help make sure that everyone stays healthy.
