Montreal Impact midfielder Steeven Saba has suffered a broken left foot that will keep him sidelined for the next 8-12 weeks, the club announced in a Thursday release.
The injury was reportedly suffered while Saba was on a routine jog near his home in Montreal, and he later confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
There is far worst than a broken foot right now đđģI didn’t even know my foot was broken. Didn’t feel anything, just woke up and couldn’t walk. Thank you to everyone wishing me a speedy recovery! Will Only come back stronger! May everyone stay safe! đđģ❤️Much Love

Saba signed with the Impact ahead of the 2020 season on a one-year contract that included options for 2021 and 2022. Prior to that, he had spent the previous two seasons in his native Haiti with Violette AC. The 27-year-old has 12 senior caps for Haiti, scoring his first international goal in Concacaf Gold Cup play against Nicaragua at Toyota Stadium in 2019.
The Impact are one of six MLS teams have yet to be cleared by health authorities to return to individual workouts, as the majority of teams throughout the league have, something club president Kevin Gilmore told TVA Sports in an interview on Wednesday he's hoping to see happen in the near future. Gilmore said the club has been in contact with municipal, regional and provincial officials and were told they weren't yet eligible for phase one of Quebec's sporting deconfinement.
“It’s already been two weeks since almost all the clubs have returned [to training]. Us, no," Gilmore said. "What I want to make clear to the people is that our players, who are training in public parks or on fields of bad quality, risk injuries. Besides, we just got confirmation that Steeven Saba broke his foot while running near his house, on the streets of Montreal. So here’s our first injury linked to the fact that we can’t train at the Nutrilait Centre! The players are left to their own devices. It is urgent to let them practice on a well-maintained field.”
