SAGINAW, MI - Emergency officials are warning residents along the Tittabawassee River in Saginaw County to be prepared for the impact of a recent failure of the Edenville Dam and the likelihood of the failure of Sanford Dam, both in Midland County.
Residents who live along the Tittabawassee River in Tittabawassee, Saginaw, and Thomas townhships, residents in the Freeland Mobile Home Park, residents in the Robin Meadows/Thornberry/Creston areas of Tittabawassee Townshship should make plans for a rapid increase in floodwaters, according to a press release from the Saginaw County Office of Emergency Management.
Edenville Dam on the Tittabawassee River failed before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
Failure of the Sanford Dam is imminent, according to officials. The dam had not failed as of 10 p.m. Tuesday. If the dam does break, it will send a flood of water downstream to Midland and then into Saginaw County.
All Saginaw County bridges across the Tittabawassee River are currently closed.
Temporary shelters are being set up at the following locations for those needing to evacuate:
- Freeland High School, 8250 Webster
- Swan Valley High School, 8400 O’Hern
- Saginaw Twp Center Courts, 3320 N. Center Road
- Hemlock High School, 733 N. Hemlock
