MEDINA, Ohio -- The Medina Community Recreation Center will be open once again starting Monday, June 1, but restrictions will be put in place to protect patrons.

According to the Recreation Center website, http://www.medinaoh.org/medina-rec, the goal is to open the facility slowly in order to determine how well the center is able to follow guidelines currently put in place, such as social distancing and disinfecting.

The center will be open seven days a week with limited hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The competition pool will close one hour before the rest of the facility, and the center’s doors will remain locked until opening time.

The Recreation Center will be open to members only for the time being. Members will be required to sign a waiver in order to be permitted into the facility.

Memberships that were active as of the March 17 closing date will be extended for three-and-a-half months.

Here are some of the safety measures being implemented:

• There will be a maximum of 100 people allowed in the facility at one time; patrons will be encouraged to wear a face mask when not working out.

• To enter, patrons must be 16 years or older unless participating in an approved program, such as camp or swim team.

• The Rascal Room (child care room) will be closed during this time.

• Benches will be removed from the lobby and main concourse area to prevent people from gathering and, while the air conditioner is on and some doors may be propped open, fans are not permitted.

• The competition pool will be open with only one person per lane and no equipment, such as kick boards, will be available for rent.

• Cardio equipment will be on basketball courts one and two, while fitness classes will take place on courts three and four.

• The track will be open with only a limited number of people allowed to use it at a time.
