SALEM — Several downtown merchants plan to stay open late for holiday shoppers tonight.
Organized by the Sustainable Opportunity Development Center, Salem’s Holiday Shopper Saturday not only promotes downtown businesses, but also showcases Salem’s interesting and fun shops that can provide residents and visitors a wide variety of unique gifts.
Eva Slagle from the SOD Center toured the businesses recently and discovered many are staying open until 8 p.m. or later, and are offering special sales for the weekend. Many locally owned restaurants are also open for shoppers to dine after Christmas shopping.
Merchants participating in this extended hour shopping event include:
• Nature + Nurture Children’s Boutique, 515 E. State St., offering books geared towards nature study, poetry, greeting cards, jewelry, some decor and themed gift bags (t-shirts, games, puzzles).
• Charm House Decor, 485 E. State St., specializing in hand-built, farmhouse style furniture, refinished antique/vintage furniture, and home dÈcor, offering 20 percent off all florals and Christmas decor.
• A Touch of Gracious Living, 435 E. State St., operated by florist Jennifer Brown, specializing in both modern and traditional arrangements and service anywhere for sympathy events, weddings, birthdays and anniversaries.
• Jen’s Paint Cellar, home boutique that shares space with A Touch of Gracious Living, providing paint technique classes, sit and paint art parties, handmade, rustic, artisan signs and other home decor, offering 15 percent discount on finished furniture and 10 percent off paint and finishes, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., call 330-831-2594 for appointments.
• State Street Records, 417 E. State St., offers thousands of used titles from many genres, such as classic rock, metal, punk, blues, jazz, easy listening, rap, R&B, and more.
• State Street Tattoo, 405 E. State St., award-winning shop with artists on display from all over the world, offering 25% off gift cards per $100 increments, and what they call a “get what you get” Christmas tree.
• Kast Iron Soda Works, 420 E. State St., Salem’s premier soda pop tavern, one-of-a-kind, family-owned and operated, offering wall of soda with hundreds of options with game room in back, offering ginger beer sampler, gift basket samplers, 20 percent off all mixers.
• Simply Scarves….And Such, 536 E. State St., offering fashions brought from New York and Los Angeles, proudly supports local entrepreneurs and their products, offering free gift with purchase.
• GC Murphy Bicycle Company, 144 N. Lundy Ave., Sales@GCCycles.com, offers many new and used bicycles, parts and accessories, vintage lines and options to assist customers with home maintenance.
• Liebe Wein, 530 E. State St., winery hosting a Sip and Build wreath-making class from 1 to 3 p.m., with The Conkle Brothers performing 7 to 10 p.m.
• Lib’s Market, 474 E. State St., coffee shop offering two bags of coffee for $32, or two for $10 bags of tea.
• Gotham Knight, 127 Penn Ave., comic book store offering new/back issues of comics, Funko pops, horror merch, Pokemon cards, Manga, graphic novels, offering 20% off entire store, free gift wrapping, and $10-$20 mystery grab bag presents.
• Nerdy Necessities, 508 E. State St., specialize in fantasy board and card games, such as Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, and Pokemon, customers can roll a 20-sided dice for a chance for up to 20% off their order.
• Killy’s Kauldron, 645 E. State St., specialty shop named after Killian, owner Courtney Bosworth’s son, offers homemade candles, essential oil blends, bath salts, and sugar scrubs crafted with homegrown or locally sourced ingredients (whenever they are available), open from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
