IRS stimulus checks: More economic impact payments to be issued in May - York Daily Record

The Internal Revenue Service on Friday said it updated its "Get My Payment" tool and millions of Americans may now have a date for when to expect their stimulus checks.

To find if you're one of the recipients who now has a direct deposit date in May, visit https://ift.tt/2VxZz2z.

If you're among the tens of millions of Americans who still doesn't know when you'll receive the economic impact payment, these updates may offer some explanations.

Where's my payment?

The IRS on Friday said it has issued 88 million payments in the last three weeks. That includes payments to Social Security survivor and disability recipients, who were paid via direct deposit by Wednesday.

Another 82 million checks need to be sent, the agency said.

Supplemental Security Income non-filers and Veterans Affairs benefit recipients will start receiving payments in early May, the IRS said.

Those who receive SSI or veterans benefits and didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return have until May 5 to use the non-filer tool on the IRS website to receive the $500 payment for dependent children younger than 17. If that May 5 deadline is missed, recipients will still get their $1,200 payments, but the $500 per child will not be paid until next year when a 2020 tax return is filed.

For others still waiting on their payment, the IRS recommends making sure the agency has your bank account information. If you enter it on this website before noon Tuesday, your payment date will be available on the following Saturday or later, according to the IRS. If the noon Tuesday deadline is missed, recipients will have to wait another week to get a payment date. If a paper check was processed before bank account information was entered, it could take two weeks to be received.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury sent the first batch of paper check on April 20, but it has not provided an update during the last 10 days. About 5 million checks are expected to be printed and distributed each week.
