FSU football head coach Bobby Bowden coached thousands of players and coached against numerous coaches in his 44 years as a head coach.
Coach Bowden coached at Howard, West Virginia, and Florida State, amassing a career record of 389-129-4(I’m giving him his 12 vacated wins).
He had a bowl record of 22-10-1 and won 12 ACC Conference Championships, two national titles, and several coaches of the year awards.
It’s only fitting those players and coaches would use this time to acknowledge his impact on their lives.

Coach Bowden, this @espn video is a perfect representation of you! When you recruited me, you promised my family that you’d support me as a football player AND as a student. You helped ALL of us be better men, leaders, and Christians. We love you, Coach. Thank you for everything! pic.twitter.com/53PvstBwCO

“When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
Rest in Victory Coach Bowden

A dream come true to have the opportunity to play for Coach Bobby Bowden. Great leader, ball coach, and most importantly, person. Thank you for impacting the Sims Family and leaving a legacy of excellence for us all to follow. https://t.co/kM3r6JCws5

Bobby Bowden was one of the all time greatest coaches in the history of college football. He’s the second winningest coach of all time behind Joe Paterno. We had some good battles during my 12 years at Florida. He won most of them and we won a few.

Today, we lost a legend. Bobby was a great friend and mentor to me, and his impact transcended the coaching profession in so many ways. Sending love to Ann and the entire Bowden family.

Godspeed to Bobby Bowden. Impossible to overstate how great his FSU dynasty was, or how sweet a man he was. I love this story about Coach and my father that we included in our book. pic.twitter.com/JRDAPFzVLB

RIP Bobby Bowden.
Two things I’ll always remember:
His help of the Marshall football program after the plane crash as depicted in “We Are Marshall.”
14 straight Top 5 finishes at FSU from 1987 to 2000. Unreal.
Rest In Peace. pic.twitter.com/kvZGxoTLX8

Thoughts
I could have posted these forever as the tributes and comments seemed to be non-ending. However, for our readers using their mobile phones, I thought I’d save your thumbs from scrolling so much.
I suppose this is the type of impact you have on people when you coach at an elite level for 44 years. Not only that, the selflessness Bowden portrayed on too many occasions to count and speaks a lot to his character.
The Nick Saban story in the tweet above is one I had never heard of before. Think about it.
Bobby Bowden would have created a spot on his staff for a guy he didn’t know so he could be closer to his mother in a time of need.
The story of Bowden helping the Marshall football program after their tragic loss is another illustration of him living what he preached.
As I wrote in my tribute earlier Sunday, the amount of people impacted by Bobby Bowden on and off the football field is a testament to the life he lived, and he lived it to the max.
It’s an honor to know Bobby Bowden was the man that led the team I became a fan of when I was five years old. It’s a great honor to know how he lived his life influenced how I approach things in life.
