Wendy Horton has been named the chief executive of UVA Medical Center, the academic health system announced Thursday.
Horton, who will officially take over Nov. 15, joined UVA Health in March as chief operating officer. Interim CEO Dr. K. Craig Kent has filled in for Pamela Sutton-Wallace, who left last year to join New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
"Wendy has performed at the highest level during our management of COVID-19 and has instilled confidence both in her team at the medical center and throughout UVA Health," Kent said in prepared remarks.
Before joining UVA, Horton was the chief administrative officer for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center College of Medicine and its faculty group practice.
The medical center reported $11 million of operating income on $1.75 billion of revenue in 2020, down from a $94 million operating income on revenue of $1.78 billion the year prior. UVA Medical Center still posted a 0.6% operating margin even as discharges and surgeries fell to their lowest levels over the past four years amid the COVID-related shutdowns.
