Several employees at an Amazon distribution center in Eastvale were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after they were exposed to a possible hazardous material, authorities said.
Fire authorities evacuated 150 employees from the Amazon Fulfillment Center on 4950 Goodman Road and transported six workers to local hospitals for what were described as moderate to minor injuries, said the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, which declined to describe their symptoms.
“They were exposed to an unknown substance inside the building,” said Jody Hagemann, spokeswoman for Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire.
The incident was first reported to authorities at 4:38 p.m. Hazmat teams with the county responded to the facility to isolate the substance and find out what it is.
“We have not identified or isolated it yet,” she said.
Cal Fire/Riverside later said in a tweet: “HAZ MAT team made entry into the building and were unable to locate anything. Incident will be terminated shortly. The business will reopen and resume normal operations.”
