Tennessee got a round of storms Thursday night while the remnants of Hurricane Laura, which was downgraded to a tropical depression, continues to move across the South.
Storms blew through Middle Tennessee Thursday night, downing power lines, causing flooding and knocking down trees. Thousands reported power outages.
Damaging winds and flooding rainfall are spreading inland over the northern portions of Louisiana, while high water levels persist along portions of the coast, the National Hurricane Center said.
Nashville is still on track to see the most action Friday including heavy showers and gusty winds, the National Weather Service reported.
"A few severe storms with damaging winds are possible, and an isolated brief tornado or 2 could form," the NWS office in Nashville tweeted early Friday. "The main time for concern will be noon until midnight."
Thunderstorms are most likely to emerge after 3 p.m. There's a potential for spin-up tornadoes, damaging winds and flooding, as up to three inches of rain hits the region. Wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph, forecasters said Thursday.
A flash flood watch is in effect for parts of the Midstate, the greatest risk is along and west of Interstate 65.
The storms could linger through early Saturday, but severity will diminish overnight Friday, the NWS says.

West Tennessee saw storms arriving as early as Thursday night, triggering a tornado watch.
East Tennessee will likely see the least amount of impact from the storms. NWS meteorologist Tim Doyle said it will be akin to heavy thunderstorms the region is used to having.
The storms are expected to last through Saturday. The total rainfall amount is expected to be no more than 1.5 inches, Doyle said.
There are no significant worries related to tornadoes, wind speeds or flooding. It will be "more of a steady rain," he said.
