Good afternoon, Houston. Here’s the latest on Hurricane Laura:
Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast as a major hurricane Wednesday night.
1:30 p.m. update:
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo ordered a voluntary evacuation for parts of Harris County ahead of Hurricane Laura, which is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge to parts of the Gulf Coast.
Residents in Zones A and B are asked to voluntarily evacuate starting immediately, Hidalgo said. See the evacuation map here.

"All of us need to be prepared for the very real potential of a direct hit from this storm," Hidalgo said announcing the evacuations. "Of course we hope for the best, but we don't want to find ourselves unprepared for the worst-case scenario."
Earlier Tuesday, mandatory evacuations were issued for Galveston, Bolivar Peninsula and low-lying coastal communities in Brazoria County.
To help facilitate the evacuations, Hidalgo ordered the Harris County Toll Road Authority to cease toll collections on the county's several toll roads.
10:30 p.m. update:
A hurricane warning was just issued for all of Galveston Island and coastal communities to the east into Louisiana as Hurricane Laura strengthens in the Gulf of Mexico.
There's also a tropical storm warning for inland communities, including all of Greater Houston east of the Brazos River.
Ahead of the storm, several school districts have closed, including Galveston, Brazosport and Huffman ISD.
7:30 a.m. update:
The National Hurricane Center upgraded Laura to a hurricane Tuesday morning, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.
Where the storm lands is yet to be seen, but the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows a westward shift in the storm's track that includes more of the Texas coastline. Laura is currently in the Gulf of Mexico and should rapidly intensify in the next 36 hours.
Meteorologists said that Laura's track could still shift even more westward, but they stressed that early forecast (between two to three days out) have an 80-mile margin of error.
Hurricane Hunters will fly into the storm later today to obtain more specific data on the storm's intensity.
Early Tuesday morning, the city of Galveston ordered a mandatory evacuation ahead of the storm.
