SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- American Airlines have announced they will suspend flights at Sioux City's airport for four weeks this fall
When looking at how these suspended flights might financially impact Siouxland, officials with the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce say there are several different avenues to consider.
One of those has to do with local businesses.
Whether it be retail, lodging, or dining, Siouxland Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Barbra Sloniker says this will affect them all.
"Businesses do rely on consistent service on travel in and out of our market, so it definitely will have an impact," said Sloniker.
Another avenue deals with the lack of passenger facility charges.
But officials say because the number of suspended flights is so low anyway, that helps to diminish potential setbacks.
"When you go through the airport as a flyer, there's a certain amount of passenger facility charges. Eventually, that money comes back to the airport for improvements and such. Again, remembering the very short time frame, this is only a three and a half week time frame," said Sloniker.
As it gets closer to that time frame, Sloniker says every effort is being made to help counteract any sort of financial impact.
"We're exploring all options of that three and a half week period. We are an essential air service community, so it's a possibility that that gets invoked. But like I said, we're really exploring all options right now," said Sloniker.
