Belmar Arts Center: A Call for 'Highest Level of Artistry' for 16th Annual Juried Art Show - TAPinto.net

BELMAR, NJ — Belmar Arts Center is seeking entries that exude “the highest level of artistry” for its 16th Annual Juried Art Show, to be held virtually for the first time.

Paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media and sculpture will be considered for acceptance into BAC’s signature event of the year, with winners receiving $1,000 in cash prizes and having their work displayed in an exclusive exhibition when the arts center reopens.

“JAS16-The Juried Art Show” will be judged by Vaune Peck, director of Monmouth University’s Center for the Arts, and an accomplished artist in her own right, as a painter, sculptor, photographer and muralist.

With 35 years of experience in arts administration, she is responsible for facilitating more than 160 annual arts events for the West Long Branch-based university, including music, dance, theater, visual, literary and cinematic arts — many accompanied by educational outreach programs.

Previous to her tenure at Monmouth University, Peck worked in the gallery field and was an independent art consultant for private and corporate collectors. She also co-owned a full-service arts consultancy where she assisted collectors with acquisitions and provided appraisal and framing services. She draws upon that experience curating exhibitions for the university’s Pollak Gallery, many of which complement the Performing Arts Series and other programs on campus.

Peck holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and advertising design and a master’s degree in liberal arts from Monmouth University, where she was also honored with a one-woman retrospective titled “Natural Tendencies.”

JAS16’s call for art comes on the heels of a successful “Gallery of Images,” BAC’s first virtual annual photography exhibition, which features 60 pieces chosen from 199 entries and can be viewed by clicking the link below.

BAC has been able to maintain its operations through show entry and membership fees, although its doors have been closed during the coronavirus pandemic — “keeping our members, artists and neighbors safe,” said show director Alexandra Martin, on behalf of the entire board of trustees.

“Our previous virtual show ‘Gallery of Images’ was very successful.  We had an overwhelming number of entries. Many of our artist-friends reported to us that they were entering as a form of a ‘donation’ to support the BAC as a valuable resource to the local art community. We were very touched to hear this,” she said, adding that the board hopes this generous gesture of support will continue with artists entering JAS16.

The online deadline to enter is Monday, August 17 at midnight. Open to artists of all ages, entrants can submit a maximum of five works with no more than two pieces from one artist being accepted. All works entered must be original creations by the artist and must be for sale. Click here for the entry form and complete rules.

All accepted artwork will be posted on the BAC website on August 25.  There will be an online opening with images posted and awards announced on September 4, with the exclusive exhibit to follow after the opening of the arts center, located at 608 River Road in Belmar.
