CROMWELL — Amazon has officially opened its new fulfillment center in Cromwell — its third on in the state. In celebration of the building’s “day one,” Amazon leaders welcomed new team members to the 400,000 square-foot building.
After a morning of safety and on-the-job training and activities, associates received the first items into the new building: four drill presses, according to a press release.
Full-time employees will work alongside state-of-the art technology to pick, pack and ship larger customer items such as mattresses, kayaks, grills and exercise equipment to communities across the state and the region, the release said. Amazon is proud to offer a safe, inclusive and innovative work environment, where employees have access to industry-leading pay and benefits, starting on day one, along with a network to succeed.
“This new operations facility will also allow us to better serve our local customers, along with the thousands of local small businesses that work with Amazon to bring their products to customers across the state and around the world,” site leader Kevin Covucci said in a prepared statement.
The company currently operates three fulfillment centers in Windsor, North Haven and Cromwell, a sortation center in Wallingford, and three delivery stations in Bristol, Stratford and Trumbull.
“We are excited to welcome Amazon to the community,” state Rep. Christie Carpino, R-Cromwell, said in the release. “Cromwell’s workforce and location are first-rate, and we look forward to a long partnership with such an industry leader.”
