Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Cancer Support Center has temporarily changed to an online programming format.

The center continues to provide the same level of quality services and programs but now in a virtual setting.

The center is serving participants using remote and virtual tools, providing support to community members through collaborative programs, while keeping participants connected to resources that foster inner peace, daily strength and caring comfort.

Licensed therapists are available for phone consults and email check-ins as well as support group ZOOM meetings.

Even though the robust online programming services continue to meet the diverse needs of CSC participants, the center must continue fundraising efforts in order to provide the critical support services that are needed now more than ever.

The RISE UP online fundraiser and celebration will include special guest video appearances from ABC Channel 7’s, Roz Varon, and Chicago Blackhawks announcer, Eddie Olczyk.

There will be musical performances by Sean & Charlie and Billy Hogan as well as appearances from bands and choirs from local area high schools.

The event will also feature cooking demonstrations and exercise routines.

Silent auction items will also be available by visiting The Center’s website. Bidding opened Tuesday and will continue through Sunday.

Visit the auction items at RiseUpCSC.givesmart.com.

Center history:

In 1992, Joan Hopkins and Judy Svancarek faced the challenges of cancer, and realized the need for emotional support for themselves, their family and friends, according to The Cancer Support Center website.

They visited other support centers and were inspired by the educational lectures and support groups, the website said.

Hopkins and Svancarek banded together with Judith Hanzelin, an oncology nurse, Carol VanTuyle, who worked in hospice, Jennifer Fallick and Patricia McDonald, who had lost husbands to cancer, to form what is now known as The Cancer Support Center, the website said.
