OAKLAND — Firefighters have knocked down a single-alarm fire at an art and science center in Lakeside Park by Lake Merritt, authorities said.
At 8:50 p.m., almost thirty firefighters responded to reports of a possible structure in the 500 block of Bellevue Avenue within the park and arrived to find flames and smoke coming from the rear of the Junior Center of Art and Science building.
Police also responded, working to block off nearby traffic on Bellevue and along Perkins Street. The fire was under control by 9:12 p.m., Oakland Fire Department spokesman Michael Hunt said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, and a cause is under investigation.
