KPMG International is launching its first global environmental, social and governance plan, dubbed Our Impact Plan, Wednesday.
The plan will merge all of KPMG's ESG goals into one global plan, focused on four main areas: "Planet, People, Prosperity and Governance." The plan will record its global ESG data and compare it with metrics outlined in Measuring Stakeholder Capitalism, a sustainability report penned by the World Economic Forum and International Business Council.
"'Our Impact Plan' brings together our collective ESG commitments in one place, allowing us to measure our progress and hold ourselves accountable," said Jane Lawrie, global head of corporate affairs at KPMG International, in a statement. "We are also privileged to position working with many global and local organizations, large and small, who are committed to addressing these real world issues."
KPMG's goals, relevant to each of its four main areas of focus, include:
- Planet: Pledge to become a net-zero carbon organization by 2030 via reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent, achieving 100 percent renewable electricity, and offsetting residual emissions.
- People: A Collective Action Plan, launched in 2020, looks to achieve tangible goals in workplace diversity and equality.
- Prosperity: Firm relationships with UNESCO, as well as those through its KPMG IMPACT network, will help support clients' sustainability goals.
- Governance: An overhaul in KPMG's Code of Conduct and Values in 2020. KPMG firms will also use ESG metrics to create Stakeholder Capitalism Metrics.
"By harnessing our convening power, digital capabilities and expertise, KPMG has an opportunity and responsibility to help shape and lead on some of the critical issues the world faces," said Bill Thomas, global chairman and CEO of KPMG International, in a statement. "Now is the time to improve how we do what we do for the better, and we can jumpstart that momentum by measuring our actions."
