(WKOW) -- President Biden has made a number of environmental executive orders and policy decisions during his first week in office, including an aim to transition the nation to 100 percent renewable energy by 2035 and net-zero emissions by 2050.
Experts say Biden's promotion of renewable energy will impact Wisconsinites. Solar and wind power are ongoing trends in the state. Biden's policies will likely encourage these alternative energy forms.
"Wisconsin is an energy importer. So, the more we can home grow our energy through renewables, the better," Steve Vavrus, senior scientist at the Center for Climatic Research and co-director of the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts said.
He says there has specifically been talk about "encouraging" carbon sequestration, the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, through good agricultural practices.
"Because we are largely a rural state, lots of farms, that's something that could be beneficial," Vavrus said.
Vavrus says a key to seeing environmental change in the state is by following through with the recommendations outlined in the Governor's Task Force on Climate Change Report.
He believes it will take cooperation on both the state and national levels for Wisconsin to mitigate climate change.
