Snowstorm Impact February 1-2, 2021
The National Weather Service has forecast a winter storm calling for significant snowfall for most of the Worcester region beginning Monday afternoon, February 1, and continuing through Tuesday, February 2. This storm will have an impact on COVID-19 testing schedules, campus parking and shuttle service, and building hours.
The campus will remain open under the current Stay In Place restrictions. Throughout the duration of the storm, response personnel will be on campus to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and our facilities. Employees who are currently remote should continue to work remotely; those who are currently on campus are encouraged to work from home if possible and should speak with their supervisors about doing so.
COVID-19 Testing
Due to the impact of the storm, the testing center at Harrington Auditorium will close at noon on Monday, February 1, and will reopen at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2.
If you were scheduled to be tested after 12 p.m. on Monday or before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, you must reschedule your appointment online.
- If you were scheduled to test Monday afternoon, reschedule your appointment to Monday morning if possible.
- If you were scheduled to test Tuesday morning, reschedule your appointment to Tuesday afternoon if possible.
- If you cannot find a testing appointment on the day you were scheduled to test, please schedule a test Wednesday, February 3.
The testing center hours will be adjusted to accommodate the shifting of appointments:
- Monday, February 1: 6:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Tuesday, February 2: 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, February 3: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Please note: Lines will likely be longer than usual; we appreciate your patience.
Parking and Shuttle Modifications
All surface lots will close by 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1 and will reopen on Wednesday, February 3 at 12:00 p.m.
Employees with valid permits should use the Park Avenue, Gateway, or East Hall garages. Gates will open upon approach at Gateway; employee badges will be needed at Park Avenue and East Hall garages.
All residential and non-residential students living in Worcester—including fraternity and sorority students—should move their cars to the Gateway Garage by 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 1; gates will open upon approach. After the storm, cars must be removed from the garages by 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3.
Please note: The City of Worcester will tow cars left on the street during a declared snow emergency. The city imposes its own parking restrictions on city streets bordering the campus; those restrictions are in effect and will be enforced until the city declares the parking ban has ended. Information is available at http://www.worcesterma.gov/streets/winter-weather/winter-parking. You may sign up for the city’s parking text and email alerts via this site.
Campus Shuttles will remain in operation unless road conditions dictate otherwise. WPI Campus Police will issue a notification if there is a change to the shuttle service.

Please note: any buildings closed because of Stay in Place restrictions will remain closed.
- Rubin Campus Center 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

WPI’s grounds team works continuously to clear and maintain walkways and surface areas. However, we encourage everyone on the campus to use caution during the storm. The predicted cold weather next week will likely produce icy conditions following the storm.
Should you find yourself in an on-campus emergency situation, please call WPI Campus Police at 508-831-5555.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
