Local forecasters are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Isaias and the potential impacts it could bring to New England early next week.
The hurricane pummeled the Bahamas on Saturday as it continued on its path toward Florida, where officials are warning residents to expect hurricane conditions along portions of the state’s east coast into Sunday.
“Tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect for portions of the northeast Florida and southern Georgia coasts,” the National Hurricane Center said in a message Saturday morning of the storm’s trajectory. “Additional watches and warnings will likely be issued later today and Sunday along the U.S. east coast as the risk of wind, heavy rainfall, and storm surge impacts continue to increase.”

Forecasters with the National Weather Service Boston said the Saturday update from the hurricane center “keeps southern New England within the potential track area, while timing has been slowed down a bit.”
Hurricane Isaias may impact the region Tuesday into early Wednesday, according to the service.
“Southern New England remains in the cone of uncertainty early next week,” forecasters wrote.
On Friday, meteorologists with the service broke down the potential impacts New England could see from the weather system.
While noting that “a lot of uncertainty exists in nearly all aspects of the forecast,” the service said the region could potentially see strong winds over 40 mph, heavy rain, and storm surge from Isaias.
“The entire forecast is dependent on the actual track and intensity of Isaias,” the meteorologists wrote.
Any watches or warnings related to the hurricane would be issued locally about 36 hours before the expected impact, the service said.
