One person was hospitalized Friday, Aug. 21, after being overcome by equipment exhaust at the Amazon distribution center in Eastvale, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department said.
Cal Fire said 279 employees were evacuated from the center in the 5200 block of Goodman Way just after 9 a.m. Five people were treated at the scene for heat-related illnesses after having to stand outside in temperatures that eventually eclipsed 100 degrees in much of western Riverside County.
Workers were using motorized equipment in a 30,000-square-foot refrigerated area when the employee began having breathing trouble, said Capt. Fernando Herrera, a Cal Fire spokesman.
Firefighters ventilated the area, and the employees returned to the building, Herrera said.
