Madison (WKOW) The economic impact from COVID-19 stretches beyond local business but to non-profit organizations and their ability to hold fundraising events.
Geoffrey Sandler in Madison is an expert at fundraising. His sole focus is doing that for non-profits.
"I only do benefit auctions. It's the only thing I do because I'm really good at it," said Sandler. "I've become an expert in non-profit and fundraising events."
People like Sandler consider February through May to be a popular fundraising period during the year. He estimates the loss of money he would've helped raise during this health pandemic to be in the millions.
Sandler believes he could still help these organizations raise money virtually, through the online meeting app, Zoom.
Sandler said, "I can look into a camera, and have all of the people in gallery view on a big 70 inch screen and say 'ok, let's start the bidding at 200. Who's going to go 200? 200?'
"And people raise their hands and it would still work the same way." He continued.
There is no knowing just how long the COVID-19 pandemic will last, or how much money was not raised during that period of time. Sandler wants to help anyway he can.
"Thinking of these non-profits, the need is still there, they serve so many people," said Sandler.
