UND to host State of the State address; it could impact campus parking - Grand Forks Herald

UND will be hosting the 2020 State of the State address Wednesday and students, faculty and staff will need to take note of potential parking impacts it will have.

Gov. Doug Burgum will deliver his address at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chester Fritz Auditorium, located on UND’s campus. The general public and members of the university community are invited to attend. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and it is free.

Burgum will speak about the current state of the state and highlight the growth and opportunity found in North Dakota, a UND press release noted.

The State of the State address – Burgum’s fourth since taking office Dec. 15, 2016 – will be livestreamed at www.governor.nd.gov. Burgum delivered the address at the Capitol in 2017 and 2019 and at Minot State University in 2018. Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford, a UND alumnus, also will attend the address in Grand Forks and deliver welcome remarks. A reception will follow in the auditorium lobby.

“It’s exciting to have the governor on our campus and doing things on campus and in the city of Grand Forks,” said Meloney Linder, UND vice president of marketing and communications.

Metal detectors and other security procedures will be in place, so attendees are asked to arrive early. People should leave all non-essential items, such as backpacks and purses, at home. People will be asked to remove phones, keys and larger metal objects from pockets. A handicap-accessible entrance will be available.

Because a large attendance is anticipated, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to use the UND shuttle service, UND noted in the release.

The Chester Fritz Auditorium lot will open for the State of the State address at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. The red “A” zone for faculty and staff, the blue “S” zone for commuter students and the brown “A/S/H” overflow zone will be closed between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Unattended vehicles will be ticketed and towed. H18 and HJFS permit holders only may park in the Chester Fritz Auditorium lot in their correct zones during this temporary closure.

The campus community is asked to make alternate arrangements for parking during this temporary closure. For a detailed parking map to find alternative parking, check UND’s website or contact UND Parking Services at 701-777-3551 for any questions regarding this temporary closure.
