(KNSI) — Both the Brooklyn Center Police Chief and the officer seen on bodycam video in a fatal shooting Sunday have resigned from the department.

A letter made public Tuesday says she is tendering her resignation, “effective immediately.”

Kim Potter, who had served on the force for 26 years, says she has “loved every minute of being a police officer and serving this community to the best of my ability.”

Potter says she “believes it is in the best interest of the community, the department and my fellow officers if I resign immediately.”

Pressure mounted Tuesday for Potter to be fired after bodycam footage showing the shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright revealed she meant to use her taser and used her firearm by accident.

Chief Tim Gannon said at a press conference Monday he would not step down, but reversed that decision Tuesday. Acting Chief Tony Gruenig says he was just informed a couple of hours ago about the developments, saying the last few hours have been chaotic, but he is focused on bringing calm to the community.

Gruenig is a 19 year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department.
