BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The first baby born in 2021 at The Medical Center was a baby girl, Letty Jean Graves. Amy and Lucian Graves, of Scottsville, are her proud parents.
Letty was born at 1:19 am, is 20 and 1/2 inches long, and has a big brother!
Letty’s mom, Amy, is a nurse in Labor and Delivery at The Medical Center. Letty came as a New Year’s surprise to her family as Amy’s due date wasn’t until January 17.
“I started having contractions yesterday afternoon, and I’m actually a Labor and Delivery nurse. So I’ve convinced myself that wasn’t quite time and about the time I decided to come in, it all happened really quickly after that. So I’ve just welcomed our sweet girl 19 minutes after one o’clock this morning,” said Amy Graves, mom.
Amy said that being on the other side of Labor and Delivery gives her a different perspective.
“Both experiences when I’ve had the baby, I have said I’m going to change the way I do certain tasks as a nurse. Just because when you’re on the other side of it, you experience it on a whole new level and you realize how scary it is and how empowering it can be for the mom. But also how vulnerable it is. It’s an amazing experience. Every time I get to do it and, create a little miracle it makes me so excited. I love my job and I love helping new moms welcome their sweet babies. So it definitely puts a new perspective on it and I’m glad we get to start the new year with such a sweet girl,” added Amy.
Amy also added that 2020 has been a tough year but her family is starting 2021 off on a positive note.
“Obviously 2020 was a scary uncertain year for everybody and very overwhelming. So to just be able to have our, our blessing of a healthy pregnancy and healthy delivery and, start the new year with something so precious and new-- it symbolizes what the new year is all about,” added Amy.
The Graves family received a $100 gift card to Target and a stuffed bunny for Letty.
