The long-awaited Center for Advanced Manufacturing will be breaking ground at Ozarks Technical Community College Thursday after the OTC Board approved a budget and construction bid for the project.

The Board of Trustees received a total of nine bids for the Center project, which has an estimated cost of $38.7 million. The contract chosen was Crossland Construction Company’s bid of $24.2 million.

The Center will allow OTC to provide students with advanced training in things like robotics, mechatronics, automation, and manufacturing methods like the use of 3D printing.

The Center is being developed because in April 2018, voters approved an additional five cents of property tax for OTC which the college pledged in return for construction. The project also received a $500,000 donation from Emerson, a St. Louis based technology and engineering firm.

The groundbreaking ceremony Thursday is not open to the public because of COVID-19 restrictions. However, the college will be live streaming the event which will feature Governor Mike Parson, OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon, and other dignitaries.
