Arizona Science Center CEO Chevy Humphrey was chosen to be the new president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
Ms. Humphrey, who will succeed David Mosena as president and CEO, will be responsible for one of the largest science museums in the world. She will be the first woman and Black American to lead the museum.
She will start the position in January.
“Leading MSI has been an aspiration of mine throughout my career. I am grateful to Arizona and the Center for the opportunity to lead in their community,” Ms. Humphrey said in a press release. “I am thrilled to be joining MSI and Chicago and look forward to being a part of this iconic institution at a critical time in our country’s history.”
Ms. Humphrey has served as the downtown Phoenix-based Arizona Science Center leader for the past 15 years and worked at the museum in different capacities prior to that. She also worked with the Phoenix Symphony.
“Chevy Humphrey is extremely accomplished and has the energy, background and experience to step right into the job and build on David Mosena’s legacy of transforming the lives of Chicago’s youth through science education,” said MSI board Chairman Chris Crane in a press release announcing the move. “Chevy has been pursuing effective strategies for years in Arizona. We couldn’t be more thrilled that she accepted our invitation to come to Chicago.”
In addition to her local roles, Ms. Humphrey serves as board chairwoman of the American Alliance of Museums, the largest international association of museums in the world. She also is board chairwoman of the Association of Science and Technology Centers.
Ms. Humphrey’s community involvement has garnered numerous Valley accolades, including being named a most admired CEO by the Phoenix Business Journal and a visionary leader by the Women’s National Basketball Association and BBVA Compass.
The global selection process was lead by an MSI search committee along with Koya Leadership Partners, a consulting firm.
