CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer is excited to announce the signing of Cormac Friedlander in partnership with Team IMPACT. Friedlander, a 12-year-old from Bucktown, officially joined the program during a signing ceremony on Sunday morning.
"It's a great day for DePaul men's soccer," said head coach Mark Plotkin. "We've thoroughly enjoyed our time with Cormac and his family thus far and are thrilled to welcome them into the DePaul Athletics family."
Cormac has a passion for soccer, but has not been able to participate in traditional youth soccer due to his Cerebral Palsy condition. However, Cormac was able to join an adaptive soccer team through the US Youth Soccer Organization's TOP Soccer program. Despite having the left side of his body physically affected by his condition, Cormac is able to play the sport he loves and compete with kids across the Chicago area.
Off of the field, Cormac enjoys playing video games, going to concerts and both following and playing sports. He loves soccer, basketball and football and obsesses over sports stadiums and learning more about statistics.
On signing day with his family, new teammates and coaches, Cormac officially signed his national letter of intent (NLI) to join the Blue Demon squad. As a member of the program, Cormac will attend DePaul practices, games and other team events.
Founded in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 2,100 children with 700+ colleges and universities in 49 states, impacting more than 60,000 student athletes.
Team IMPACT has more than 1,200 teams across the country waiting to be matched with children, ages 5-16, who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness and who could benefit from becoming a member of the team.
