Air Force Reserve Command’s Force Generation Center will celebrate a “Decade of Excellence” in generating combat-ready forces for the United States here on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.
The anniversary celebration, will be led by Maj. Gen. Matthew J. Burger, deputy commander, AFRC and Brig. Gen. Stacey Scarisbrick, FGC commander and will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Oct. 1 at the Force Generation Center.
The AFRC FGC is the single organization responsible for generating Air Force Reserve forces by leveraging Reserve strategic capability to meet operational needs in support of the global force. The FGC performs all aspects of force generation to include oversight, visibility and accountability of more than 70,000 Air Force Reserve forces. The FGC mission also includes an enhanced command and control function for AFRC.
On Oct. 1, 2011, Air Force Reserve Command redesignated the 952nd Reserve Support Squadron as the Headquarters AFRC Force Generation Center to help seamlessly accession Citizen Airmen to volunteer, mobilize and deploy while meeting combatant commander requirements.
This week, the FGC will celebrate 10 years of carrying out its mission. Since standing up, the center has helped with weather events such as hurricanes, tornados and wildfires and with public health issues by assisting during the Zika virus and Ebola pandemic. Most recently, the FGC helped activate Reservists to help with COVID-19 medical and recovery support and to assist with the evacuation of Americans and at-risk Afghans out of Afghanistan.
“The FGC and the capabilities it brings the command have repeatedly enhanced our ability to quickly respond to support our nation,” said Lt. Gen. Richard Scobee, AFRC commander and chief of the Air Force Reserve. “We could not do it all without our FGC.”
In the past 10 years, the FGC supported more than 166,000 off-station training missions flying more than one million hours, transporting more than 765,000 passengers and moving almost 900,000 tons of cargo. The FGC received three Air Force Organizational Excellence awards since its inception, along with one in 2010 before it was officially organized as a center.
In just the past year, the FGC executed 19,000 missions, including 32,000 flights. The center oversaw 167 Hurricane Hunter weather flights and supported more than 180 aerial spray missions.
The Force Generation Center divides its work between four divisions; the operations, forces, exercise, and security operations and systems divisions. The FGC Battle Watch is the 24/7 hub that provides focused command and control of AFRC forces in execution. AFRC forces can reach the Battle Watch anytime from anywhere to resolve issues, clarify guidance or obtain mission assistance.
