ELKINS — On Saturday, The Arts Center will present an afternoon of music and children’s activities free to the public.
This event will be outdoors on The Arts Center’s Park Street lawn, and behind The Art Center’s office, facing City Park.
“Jump Into June” will feature outdoor concerts on The Arts Center’s Park Street lawn, and behind the office. Musical guests include old time music by The Fiddlers’ Support Group at 1 p.m., roots/Americana singer and guitarist Kristin Federer at 2 p.m., Seth Maynard and Rich Norwood playing a jazz set at 2:30 p.m., and rock band The Grym Sins at 3 p.m.
“We wanted to let everyone know that The Arts Center is still very much alive, and gearing up for a new season of art, music, classes, and events,” said Executive Director Kurt Barkley. “We’ll have activities for the children, cornhole boards set up, of course the musical performances, and this Member’s Art Exhibit will also be open. We’re very happy to offer this family event for the whole community, and remind everyone of the types of things we offer.”
The Fiddlers’ Support Group is a loose affiliation of musicians who meet at The Arts Center at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays each month. Dedicated primarily to old time music, the group is open to the public, and new members are encouraged to stop by and join in.
Kristin Federer grew up in Clarksburg, and played to audiences around the United States before she finally settled in Elkins. Federer says she is “a mother, an artist, a musician, a gardener, and a lover of laughter, kindness and honest folks.” She plays a variety of favorites from the 1950’s to today, ranging from blues, to folk, country, rock, and funk.
Musicians Seth Maynard (guitar) and Rich Norwood (saxophone) will perform a set of jazz favorites as well as improvisational pieces.
The Grym Sins hail from Randolph and Barbour counties. Performing a mix of rock and roll and original songs, the quartet consists of Lane Cutright, Billy Flint, Daniel Snider and Austin Satterfield. The band’s single, “Miss Sunshine,” is available on iTunes, Spotify, Pandora and most other platforms.
Also at the event will be a tent with State Farm insurance agent Jodie Parrack and another with Bob Smakula from Smakula’s Fretted Instruments.
