The Hmong Cultural Center is expanding its museum gallery into a 1,200-square foot, ground-level storefront on the same block.
The new space at 377 University Ave. W. is expected to open by mid-2021 with double the square footage of the current location next door, which is situated within Hmong Cultural Center’s Frogtown offices.
The new space will be large enough to support social distancing and tours for school groups, according to organizers, and include a small theater for documentaries.
The museum, which is situated on the Green Line in St. Paul’s Little Mekong cultural district, features interpretive display panels, cultural objects and interactive technology.
Funding for the expansion is provided by the Luce Foundation ($50,000), Arts Midwest Resilience Fund ($50,000) and the Minnesota Humanities Center ($76,500).
