Isaias remained a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph on Friday evening, with confidence increasing in a track that will impact eastern North Carolina, the National Weather Service said.

“Our confidence has increased that we will be impacted by Isaias, but our confidence still remains low especially with regards to intensity and timing,” the weather service said in its 5 p.m. update.

The system has also slowed, with the earliest onset of tropical storm force winds likely arriving later in the day Monday, forecasters said.

Dare County Emergency Management Direct Drew Pearson said the forecast also appears to be tracking west, and Isaias may go back to tropical storm status by the time it reaches our area.

“That said, any movement back to the east could keep intensity at hurricane level,” Pearson said. “While this forecast is promising don’t let your guard down. Continue preparations and keep up with the forecast.”
