During his regular report, Public Works Director Joe Sherwin said the county’s widening of Robinson at Patsy Lane is continuing on schedule as work on the Woodlands Parkway overpass portion of the project begins. He also said engineering plans for the potential future realignment of Robinson at Hanna Road to the east could be sent to the city, county and Union Pacific for review in the coming days.
Sherwin also said he is working with the Texas Water Development Board in hopes of lowering the city's community rating this spring, which could lead to a reduction for anyone with a flood insurance policy in the city. He also advised officials to review the city's emergency management plan as the 2020 hurricane season is underway.
City Manager Heather Neeley said the city pool launched for the season June 5, and the city has sold nearly 50 pool passes for the season so far. She said pool staff reported the facility capacity did not approach the 50% limit mandated by Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest order, and they anticipate expanding pool hours to limited weekday operations this month.
Neeley also said the council will review the state comptroller's latest sales tax collection data for the city, which will be released June 12, at its next regular meeting. The June figures, covering city sales tax collections for April, are expected to fall below the level of March collections due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Officials also discussed a development agreement for water and sewer services with Copeland Gun Range, a new facility proposed within the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, in a closed executive session. No action regarding the agreement was taken.
