The Irving Arts Center plans to reopen July 1, more than three months after it shut down due to coronavirus.

The center will implement new hours and additional health and safety precautions, including hand sanitizer stations and physical distance markers. Galleries will be restricted to 25-percent capacity, and staff will conduct frequent cleanings.

“As a staff, we have been spending a lot of time thinking about the future — what it will be like, how we can find some version of post-pandemic normal — and particularly, how we can make a visit to Irving Arts Center safe and rewarding for visitors and patrons,” executive director Todd Hawkins said in a letter.

Upon opening, several exhibits will be on display, including artwork by Irving elementary school students, photography by North Lake College students and a series of photographs documenting wilderness in Antarctica.

The center’s Dupree Theater will reopen July 23 with the MainStage production of An Act of God, which will run through Aug. 1. To keep patrons safe, three seats between each group and every other row will be vacant.

In addition to shuttered galleries, the arts center scrapped plans for live summer camps in light of COVID-19 and instead offered virtual camps for children ages 4 to 16.

Irving Arts Center, 3333 North MacArthur Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
