Minnesota solar installer Innovative Power Systems has rebranded as Impact Power Solutions (IPS) to refocus its efforts to build better energy locally and nationally.
“2020 has been very challenging, but solar can help in the healing process,” explained new CEO Jamie Borell. “For communities, this means better job opportunities and less pollution. For farmers, solar means income stability. For organizations, this means a better way of doing business.”
“Our purpose is to positively impact our clients, community, and the climate,” said IPS Chief Development Officer Eric Pasi. “This includes everything from promoting local workforce development in North Minneapolis to partnering with the American Forests Organization, where we’re committing to plant nearly 50,000 trees in 2020. We succeed when our communities succeed, and right now we’re answering the call to action.”
Company founder Ralph Jacobson transitioned from CEO to a new Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer. The role will allow him to expand his efforts with under-represented communities. Jacobson is working on phase two of the Red Lake Solar project this year, bringing in tribal members to learn about solar technology and career pathways while installing panels on roofs.
In response to the economic downturn IPS has rolled out a new Community Solar Stimulus, providing significant near-term value to organizations in rural Minnesota.
IPS will host a virtual version of its ongoing Commercial Solar Happy Hour series with Minneapolis microbrewery Utepils on June 23, focusing on why solar is an important investment for business. IPS is buying beer and raffling merchandise for virtual attendees. The popular event series has gone online for the time being and will now facilitate conversations about moving Minnesota forward. The next scheduled conversation will focus on equity and clean energy, looking at opportunities to expand models like North Minneapolis’ Shiloh Temple community solar project which the company completed in 2018.
Last fall, Impact Power Solutions forged a partnership with private equity firm SmartPitch Ventures, taking on a significant capital investment. IPS is scaling its project development efforts to take on a more prominent industry role nationally. The company successfully developed nearly 100 acres of new construction community solar projects in Illinois which are set to begin construction this summer. “These projects will provide bill savings to more than 2,500 homes in southern Illinois, and we’re really proud of that.” Pasi said.
Formerly known as Innovative Power Systems, the new Impact Power Solutions name reflects IPS’s broader, more complete view of corporate responsibility that is focused on creating value for all. IPS is a full-service clean energy development company. For over 30 years, it has gone beyond installing solar panels to leading the transition away from fossil fuels toward a renewable future. IPS specializes in client solutions ranging from rooftop solar to multi-megawatt community solar gardens and energy storage.
