Dimukeje is one of 42 student-athlete nominated for the 17th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy, which honors the top defensive player in college football who makes the biggest impact for his team, both on and off the field.
In 38 career games, all starts, Dimukeje has 122 tackles, 24.5 TFL, 14.0 sacks, one INT, three caused fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two PBUs and 23 QB pressures. He owns 24 games with three-plus tackles and eight outings with five-plus stops, including a career-high eight tackles against Wake Forest in 2019. The Baltimore, Md., native has three games with at least 2.0 TFL, including a career-best performance of 3.0 against Georgia Tech in 2019. Dimukeje posted a career-high 3.0 sacks opposite Georgia Tech in 2019 as well to tie him for second all-time in Duke's single-game history.
Dimukeje heads into his final year of eligibility being just 7.5 tackles for loss away from breaking into Duke's career top-10 list. He also currently sits tied with Vince Oghobaase for sixth all-time in Duke's career sacks chart (14.0) and is nine sacks away from breaking the record.
In 2019, Dimukeje earned Second Team All-ACC honors after finishing with 41 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, one forced fumble and 10 quarterback hurries. He was one of four Blue Devils to register 7.0+ TFL on the season and led Duke, ranked fourth in the ACC, and was tied for 17th nationally with 8.5 sacks. His 8.5 sacks were the most by a Blue Devil in a season since 2002, and also placed him fifth all-time in single-season lore.
Duke's most recent finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy was former Duke linebacker Ben Humphreys in 2017. The Blue Devils also had finalists for the award in 2014 and 2015, with linebacker David Helton and safety Jeremy Cash, respectively, being honored.
Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.
This year's Watch List has 16 linebackers, 15 defensive backs and 11 defensive linemen. The Big Ten and the ACC both have nine candidates while the Pac-12 has eight, the SEC seven, the Big 12 five, the Mountain West two, the AAC one and one independent, Notre Dame.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy, which has raised more than $1.6 million for scholarships and other youth-related charities throughout the country, is the only major college football award where the character of the nominee is considered.
