Monday, October 18, 2021Members of Minnesota Zej Zog hosted a free event in Centennial Park on Friday to show their interest and support of the redevelopment of a 80-acre parcel in Brooklyn Center known as the “opportunity site.”
The opportunity site is an approximately 80-acre site west of Highway 100 and east of Shingle Creek Parkway. The city considers it a key redevelopment site. The city council adopted a master plan in June to guide the project. You can follow the process here.
“As the city is changing and evolving, we want to make sure Hmong people are involved in that change,” said Linda Yang, with Minneosota Zej Zog. “There’s so many Hmong residents and Asian residents here in the city of Brooklyn Center. Minnesota Zej Zog serves so many Hmong community members and we want to draw those voices out.”
The event featured movies and activities.
“It’s very near and dear to my heart, what happens in this city,” said Yang. “I have family members still here. My kids live here. I’m very vested in this project.”
