Dr. Anthony Fauci — famed doctor, scientist and immunologist — has quietly been spending time at the VacaValley Wellness Center in Vacaville.
He was there again Saturday and visitors were excited for a photo opportunity — with the cardboard likeness.
“He thinks it’s funny,” said Satwinder Singh of Fairfield of his son, Schaj, 15, who had just received his first Pfizer vaccination shot.
“It’s kind of impressive,” the teen said, posing for his dad. The photo would likely end up on the youth’s social media.
Satwinder expressed satisfaction with the free vaccination clinic, saying the drive-thru line moved quickly and Saturday was a perfect day for the event as he was off from work and his son was off from school.
Indeed, the event was well organized as tons of hospital staff volunteered their time and services to come out and help.
“This is really a special event,” said Marc Higgins, assistant vice president supply chain with NorthBay Healthcare. “I was blessed to meet 500 people.” That’s the number of people with appointments, apparently, and Higgins made sure to check on every vaccination patient, who had to park for 15 minutes following the shot to ensure they were ok before leaving.
Ryan Seo, pharmacy director and campus administrator, said staff from all levels have been itching in at the clinics because they truly care about the community. It’s an expensive venture, he said, but a worthwhile one.
“We are very proud we were able to vaccinate a quarter of the county,” he shared. “Everybody here is really making history doing vaccinations. We can tell our grandkids we were part of this.”
As for the Fauci cutout, its brought some lightness to a situation that can be very dark, Seo advised.
“It brought the fun factor,” he mused. “I thought it would be fun so I bought it from Amazon.”
Apparently. you can buy almost anything from Amazon.
“I don’t think Dr. Fauci is getting any royalties from this,” Seo joked.
There’s been a decline in demand for the vaccinations, so the hospital will be phasing out the drive-thru clinic next weekend, 1020 Nut Tree Road.
Walk-ins are welcome, although pre-registration through MyTurn.Ca.Gov is recommended.
