"We're really happy with the acquisition of this young American international player that fits in our sporting project," Montreal Impact sporting director Olivier Renard said in a statement. "We add to the roster a creative and versatile player in the attacking department."
The Fire receive $400,000 in 2021 General Allocation Money and $400,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money, as well as $200,000 in conditional General Allocation Money.
“Djordje has represented the Fire for nearly a decade and was the first Academy player to break into the first team and consistently make an impact,” Chicago Fire FC sporting director Georg Heitz said in a statement. “While this was certainly a difficult decision, Djordje was entering the final year of his contract and was ready for a new challenge. Throughout this entire process, we have worked with him and his team to find a solution that would be beneficial for the player and the club. We are appreciative of all that he has given to the Fire over the last seven years and wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”
The Athletic's Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio first reported the news.
Mihailovic signed a Homegrown deal with the Fire in 2017 and scored seven goals with 15 assists in 73 regular season appearances, including two goals and a career-high seven assists in 2020. He played six games with the US men's national team, including two games at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, and scored a goal on January 28, 2019, in an international friendly against Panama.
