Amazon officials recently announced plans to open its first fulfillment center in Missouri City expected to bring 500 new full-time jobs to the Fort Bend County area.
“We’re excited to be expanding our network of operations in Missouri City,” said Alicia Boler Davis, Amazon’s vice president of global customer fulfillment in a statement. “We are grateful for the strong support we’ve received from local and state leaders as we broaden our footprint throughout Texas. Every day at Amazon, incredible employees come together to deliver magical experiences for customers and we look forward to creating over 500 jobs for the local community, with industry-leading pay and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.”
The new one million square-foot fulfillment center is expected to open sometime in 2021 and will be located at 2303 Hurricane Lane where workers will pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs.
Amazon officials said workers will receive a $15 per hour wage and full-time employees will be eligible for comprehensive benefits including full medical, vision, and dental insurance as well as a 401(k) with 50 percent match starting on day one. In addition, Amazon workers will receive up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, company officials say is designed to give new parents flexibility to support their growing families.

“Missouri City and Amazon are alike when it comes to success, diversity, customer service and community. We are looking forward to this new business model, which focuses on customer service and expands the economy as this is another partnership that will build on our commercial tax base, helping to ease the property tax burden on residents,” Missouri City Mayor Yolanda Ford said in a statement. “Expanding the economic base is a citizen and City Council priority, and this new Amazon center helps to achieve that goal. It’s just another step in moving Missouri City’s economy forward into the future.”

In Texas, Amazon operates fulfillment centers in Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, San Marcos, Coppell, Schertz in addition to two facilities near the Dallas Fort Worth airport and a massive 3.8 million-square-foot Amazon warehouse set to open in Pflugerville just north of Austin next year among others. In the greater Houston area, the Seattle-based company currently operates a facility on Ella St. in north Houston, a 240,000-square-foot sortation center in Humble and a one million square-foot facility in Brookshire just north of Katy that opened in 2018.
The Missouri City location will become the company’s second Fort Bend County facility with an 850,000-square foot fulfillment center being built on a 93.5 acre site in Richmond expected to open in 2021 and create 1,000 jobs.
“We’re proud to welcome Amazon a second time to Fort Bend County. This new site in Missouri City will generate 500 high-quality jobs for our community, adding tremendous value to our commercial sector. We look forward to working with all businesses to keep moving Fort Bend forward,” Fort Bend County Judge KP George said via email.

“We welcome Amazon to Missouri City and are excited that this piece of the City’s long-term economic development plan has come to fruition,” City Manager Odis Jones said in a state. “Our teams have been working hand-in-hand the last few weeks to finalize the deal and we are looking forward to continuing our corporate-community partnership with this industry giant for years to come.”
Texas is also home to Amazon’s 35 Whole Foods Market locations and Amazon Wind Farm Texas, a 253 Megawatt wind farm in west Texas opened in late 2017 that boasts over 100 turbines.
Statewide, company officials say Amazon has brought more than $18.8 billion in GDP to the Texas economy and has helped create over 49,000 indirect jobs such as jobs in construction, logistics and professional services.
