Space Center Houston began selling tickets on Tuesday for its July 1 reopening.
The museum is selling tickets with specific timed admission to control the number of people who can visit during this COVID-19 pandemic. Its other precautions include sanitizing stations, plexiglass shields at ticket counters and a one-way walking path through the exhibits.
“We have taken a phased approach to reopening Space Center Houston,” William T. Harris, president and CEO of Space Center Houston, said in a news release. “It’s not business as usual; it’s a new time with additional health and safety measures that may be with us for some time. We will reopen with managed capacity in center and have extended our health and safety measures beyond what the CDC requirements are to ensure the safest possible experience we can offer.”
New exhibit: SpaceX rocket to be displayed at Space Center Houston
Space Center Houston is adding new live shows in open spaces and has a new “Apollo 13: Failure is not an option” exhibit summarizing the mission as it unfolded. Also new to the museum (opening right before COVID-19 forced Space Center Houston to close) is a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster. Measuring 156.5 feet long and 12 feet in diameter, the Falcon 9 booster is displayed horizontally and guests can walk underneath it. It is the second Falcon 9 rocket booster on display in the world, and it will be Space Center Houston's first commercial space exhibit.
The museum's members can experience the center first with exclusive members-only Welcome Back Days June 28 to June 30. For everyone else, ticket prices range from $24.95 for children between 4 and 11 and $29.95 for adults, with discounts for seniors and military members. Parking fees will be waived for a limited time.
