Loveland’s recreation center, library and more will reopen to public next week - Loveland Reporter-Herald

Popular Loveland city facilities will reopen next week as the state and county start to roll back orders that closed most public buildings in response to COVID-19.

The Chilson Recreation Center, Loveland Public Library and Loveland Museum are all scheduled to reopen Monday and Tuesday, three months after the city announced those facilities would close.

Employees of the city’s Cultural Services and Parks and Recreation departments were among those targeted by furloughs in recent months, and City Manager Steve Adams told the city council earlier this week that the reopening means many will be returning to work.

Still, limits on the number of visitors and staff will be enforced, he said, and other procedural changes are being introduced to keep common areas clean.

City offices — including City Hall, the Public Works Administration Building and the Water and
Power Department — are also scheduled to reopen to the public on June 15.

Chilson Recreation Center

Loveland’s recreation center will reopen at 30% capacity on Monday, with reservations required for some amenities, including basketball and lap swimming.

Members of the public may make appointments online at www.cityofloveland.org/webtrac.

Users will be asked to wear masks when not in the pool or participating in fitness activities that would require masks to be removed.

Staff members will greet users at the facility’s entrance and ask a series of five COVID-19 screening questions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Floor and wall signs will remind users of social distancing requirements, and those in the cardio/fitness area of the center will be given spray bottles of disinfectant and towels to help keep equipment sanitary.

The Chilson Senior Center remains closed, and the city has yet to announce a reopening date.

Loveland Public Library

The second floor of the city’s public library will also open on Monday at half-capacity.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Visitors will be allowed to access the library’s technology center / classroom and the iCreate Makerspace for up to 45 minutes by reservation.

The library will require visitors ages 10 and older to wear masks, and staff members will also ask CDC-recommended screening questions. As in the rec center, signs will remind visitors of 6-foot social distancing rules.

Online resources and curbside checkout will remain available after Monday.

Reservations and other resources and information will be available at https://lovelandpubliclibrary.org/.

Loveland Museum

On Tuesday, the Loveland Museum will reopen for up to 50 patrons at a time, with the same rules as the library’s on face coverings and staff asking screening questions.

The museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and on Saturdays, with the first hour set aside for seniors and other vulnerable individuals on Wednesdays. It will also be open on Fridays from 2-7 p.m., with the first hour also set aside.

Floor markings will be used to help patrons follow 6-foot distancing rules as they move through exhibits.

The BEET Education Center at 201 E. Fifth St., which is immediately west of the museum, will also open next month for socially-distanced art classes.

More information on the museum’s reopening and adjusted hours of operation are available at
www.lovelandmuseumgallery.org.

Other city buildings

City offices will reopen on June 15 and resume regular hours of operation. Visitors are encouraged to socially distance and wear masks.

The Development Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Due to a recent order that staff members take six furlough days before the end of the year, the center will remain closed to the public on Fridays through Dec. 4, with Friday building inspections available on a limited basis.

Development applications may be submitted online at www.cityofloveland.org/government/development-center.
