Longmont will reopen its two indoor swimming pools on Monday and open its outdoor pool on June 22, city officials announced Friday.
Reopening Monday on a reservation-only basis after having been closed since mid-March as a health precaution during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, will be Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine St., and the Longmont Recreation Center pool, 310 Quail Road.
Other Longmont Recreation Center non-swimming features will be reopening, as well, the city indicated in its news release announcement, tinyurl.com/ydfolvox.
Sunset Pool, the city’s outdoor swimming pool at 1900 Longs Peak Ave. that usually opens each May but has been kept closed during the disease pandemic, is scheduled to open June 22, and officials said they’d be announcing further details next week for people planning to swim there.
Centennial Pool and Longmont Recreation Center swimmers will have to reserve time slots in advance of visiting either of the two pools, and they must pay in advance for those reservations, city officials said in a news release.
In their initial reopening phases, Centennial Pool and the Recreation Center pool will have limited hours as well as limits on how many people can be present at any one time, so pool patrons finding that reservations are full are being encouraged to get on wait lists.
People can make reservations for lap and fitness swimming at Centennial Pool, officials said. For the Recreation Center pool, people can reserve times for lap and fitness swimming, adult swims, and open swim times when the slides and diving boards will be available.
Longmont’s Recreation Division is reopening Centennial Pool and the Recreation Center following guidelines from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Boulder County Public Health.
Users of those facilities will be asked to observe practices required or suggested by those health agencies, including wearing face coverings when not in the water and maintaining social distances from one another.
Preparations to welcome people back to the Recreation Center and Centennial Pool have included and will include increased sanitation and cleaning practices, installing signs, filling pools, and providing additional staff training, officials said in the news release.
“Safety and wellness of recreation guests is our top priority, and we are working diligently to ensure we can meet state and county guidelines throughout the process,” city staff said in the news release.
“We’re delighted to be able to welcome our residents back in the safest manner possible,” Recreation Manager Jeff Friesner said.
Recreation Center and Centennial Pool patrons can begin making online reservations and pay for their visits in advance at noon today, Friday, at tinyurl.com/y7brbgwo. Reservations may be made online up to seven days in advance for a period of one hour for everything but open swimming, which will be available in 1.75-hour blocks for the Longmont Recreation Center pool.
Under general coronavirus-reponse heath and safety guidelines for using those facilities, lockers will remain closed and cannot be used by visitors. People are being asked to bring their own equipment, such as kick boards, swim aids and water bottles.
The Recreation Center’s hot tub, sauna and steam rooms will remain closed.
Officials said reservations can be made for Centennial Pool’s lap and fitness swimming, and for the Recreation Center’s lap and fitness swimming, adult swim times and the open swim times when the center’s slides and diving boards will be available.
