Heritage Window & Door plans to repair the Damiano Center’s windows free of charge.
Paul Kellner, owner of Heritage Window & Door said they will take care of the labor, but they are asking the community to help them with this project by donating money for parts and pieces.
"This is where we live. This is our community. You know, so taking care of your own is an easy thing to do and we’re glad to do it,” Kellner said.
Kellner emphasized that the Damiano Center gives year round and he and his colleagues want to insure the Damiano Center can keep giving to the community.
"We love Duluth. I’m originally from New York City and moved to Duluth and fit right in. This is the best place on earth to live and I’ve lived in a lot of places," Kellner said.
The Damiano Center had to close their indoor programs as a result of the pandemic, but they say they have not missed a meal.
"So many people rely on this. Its been a huge need especially during COVID when funds are really tight for a lot of people,” Seth Currier, Executive Director of the Damiano Center said.
The center serves meals 17 times a week through their kid’s kitchen and their community kitchen. Now, these meals come in boxes and are distributed outside the Damiano Center.
"Its amazing to have so much community support—especially in times like this, especially with COVID and all of the stressors that that puts on non-profits in the area and individuals, so to have the community come together like this is just really special,” Currier said.
The goal is to raise $800 to replace the windows. People who would like to donate can do so on the Damiano Center's website. They are asked to comment "Windows" on their donation.
All additional proceeds raised will be used to support other programs at the Damiano Center.
