The city of Hutto has a new business partner in town, following a joint Feb. 6 announcement with Titan Development that EDC Moving Systems—a moving, storage and distribution company—would relocate its Austin logistics and storage operations to Hutto’s Innovation Business Park.
The project, referred to in city documents as “Project Electric Daisy,” was announced at Hutto City Council’s Feb. 6 meeting. Per the agreement made between the city, Titan Development and EDC Moving Systems, the operations center will relocate to a 150,0000-square-foot facility in the business park and would occupy 93,000 to 94,000-square-feet of that building.
“One of the goals this City Council has always been focused on is creating a more robust local economy,” said Mayor Doug Gaul in a Feb. 6 news release. “We are excited to welcome EDC Moving Systems, their employees and families to Hutto."
EDC anticipates relocating 38 full-time employees from Austin to Hutto, according to the news release, and will also employ 12 contract workers. EDC plans to hire an additional 12 positions during its first five years in Hutto, per the release.
As confirmed by Jennifer Burrington, economic development specialist for the city, incentives in the agreement include a 25% ad valorem rebate for the 10 years, maxed out at a rebate of $100,000 during that 10-year timespan. Burrington added the return on that ad valorem rebate investment will likely come after one year.
“We look forward to this exciting new chapter as we are welcomed into the City of Hutto,” said Luke Barber, general manager of EDC Moving, in the release. “We are eager to build relationships with the people and businesses of Hutto. Our employees are our cornerstone, and we are happy to relocate to an area that is more convenient and economic for our staff and their families.”
EDC, founded in 1976, has five branches throughout Texas and Louisiana, according to the release. The company specializes in “local, domestic and international household, office and industrial moving and storage, as well as white glove furniture delivery for high-end furniture companies,” per the release.
Barber, who has lived in Austin for the past several years, said he is excited to relocate operations to Hutto and bring his employees with him.
“It just felt like home,” Barber said.
