According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder, Denver has already reached its daily high temperature for Friday, hitting 48 degrees early in the morning. The cold front moved in after some late-night winds, crossing the metro area around 4 a.m. Temperatures will now dip to the 30s during the day, and 15 degrees overnight as snow will begin to fall around 11 a.m. The snowflakes could be heavy at times, and wind gusts over 20 mph could make driving challenging. The chance of precipitation is 80%, with about two inches falling before sunset. Another three inches could drop after nightfall, totaling up to five inches in Denver, as the snow will slow around 10 p.m.
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for Denver, the Southern Front Range Foothills, Boulder, the western Denver suburbs and Castle Rock. The alert will be in effect from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m.
“A cold front will result in snow beginning after noon across metro Denver, Boulder, the foothills to the west and the Palmer Divide,” NWS warns. “Roads may initially remain wet with light snow falling during the afternoon hours, but after sunset, snow rates should pick up with banded snowfall, and cooling air and road temperatures leading to slick conditions during the evening commute, including the I-25, I-70 and U.S. 285 corridors.”
Denver may wake up Saturday with fresh snow on the ground but it will be mostly sunny with a high of 46 degrees. Some melting will occur before the evening low dips to 23 degrees.
Super Bowl Sunday will be sunny with a high of 55 degrees.
Next week will begin with temperatures in the high 50s, but snow could make its way into the area on Wednesday.
