YPSILANTI, MI -- In a game that came down to the last minute, Warren Michigan Collegiate converted a fourth down for a touchdown to top Michigan Center, 36-29, in a MHSAA Division 6 semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Ypsilanti Lincoln High School.
The two teams battled back and forth all afternoon and were tied at both halftime and the end of the third quarter.
Warren Michigan Collegiate took a 28-22 lead early in the fourth quarter before Michigan Center came back to take a 29-28 lead with about three minutes to play.
On the ensuing possession, the Cougars moved down the field until a holding penalty pushed them back. The Cardinals were able to force a fourth and 12.
Michigan Collegiate quarterback Deion Black then hooked up with Tre’von Redding for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 43 seconds to play for the win.
Michigan Center finishes the season with a record of 11-2 after advancing to the semifinals for the first time in school history. Warren Michigan Collegiate will play Lansing Catholic Central for a state title next Friday, Nov. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit.
