The Dempsey Center, which provides people with cancer free services such as cancer education and oncology counseling, has named Cara Valentino as its new CEO and president.
Valentino most recently served as the director of consulting at The Clearing, a business management consulting firm in Washington, D.C. She is a certified executive coach and organizational development consultant.
Valentino succeeds Wendy Tardif, who has served as CEO and president for the Dempsey Center for the last 11 years. Tardiff also served for two years as the event manager of the Dempsey Challenge, a two-day bicycle ride that raises funds for almost half of the center’s budget.
With locations in South Portland and Lewiston and a virtual center called Dempsey Connects, the Dempsey Center services help individuals and families with physical and emotional health as they deal with a cancer diagnosis. The center also provides specialized services for children, teens and their families. The center is affiliated with nearby Central Maine Medical Center.
“I appreciate the board’s confidence in me, and I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such an inspiring organization,” said Valentino.
Valentino noted her desire to be part of the meaningful work happening at the center, providing support to people impacted by cancer, and guiding the organization through its next phase of growth.
