Dr. W. Jacob Cobb joined American Regional Health Center on August 1
VICTORIA, Texas – American Regional Health Center is happy to welcome Dr. W. Jacob Cobb, M.D. as their newest arrival. Dr. Cobb joined the clinic on Aug. 1. He is now accepting new patients.
Dr. Cobb, M.D. received his medical degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. He then completed his medical internship and residency in Family Medicine at John Peter Smith (JPS) Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He also completed his fellowship training at JPS Hospital in surgical obstetrics and obstetric ultrasound.
Dr. Cobb is originally from Refugio, Texas, and is committed to providing quality healthcare for families. He offers care from infancy through mature adulthood, with a particular passion for obstetrics. Dr. Cobb specializes in helping families achieve and maintain good health through preventative care and diagnostic treatment of acute and chronic illnesses. He also offers full-spectrum care, including outpatient and inpatient medical care.
Dr. Cobb provides procedural services to patients including:
- simple skin/excision procedures,
- cervical dysplasia evaluation/treatment,
- long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) placement/management,
- joint injections,
- obstetrical ultrasound and more.
During Dr. Cobb’s residency, he received multiple recognition. He was awarded The Heart of Medicine Award in 2020, which is a faculty award for residents seen to go above and beyond in patient care, education and all things involved in the “heart of medicine.”
In 2018, Dr. Cobb was awarded the My Family Doc Award, which is an internal JPS award given by peers to the resident physician who best embodies the principles of family medicine. He was also named the Intern of the Year for the JPS Family Medicine Program in 2018. Dr. Cobb served as the Chief Resident of the Maternal Child Health Area of Emphasis and the Chief Resident of the JPS Family Medicine Residency.
Dr. Cobb co-authored several articles and studies, such as:
- “Labor Dystocia in Nulliparous Patients (2020),”
- “HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (2019),”
- “Emergency Department Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Severe Sepsis with Shock at a Small Community Hospital: A
Quality Improvement Pilot (2017),” - “Aligning Physician Practices with Evidence-Based Medicine: A pilot study on the effects of improving recognition and compliance with early bundle therapy in septic patients at a community hospital (2017),” and
- “Emergency Department Treatment of Severe Sepsis and Severe Sepsis with Shock at a Small Community Hospital: A Quality Improvement Pilot (2017).”
Dr. Cobb is also fluent in Spanish and enjoys being able to care for and communicate directly with his Spanish-speaking patients.
