The hot new place to sit outside on the Upper West Side is…artificial turf. A new soy-based lawn at the Josie Robertson Plaza in Lincoln Center is drawing sunshine-seekers to the performing arts center. It’s part of the nonprofit’s Restart Stages program.
The edges of the new surface look almost like a half-pipe skateboard ramp and people have been lounging against it.
There’s also a cafe in the center under another curved turf-segment.

The central square has seats covered in the turf.
“The grass is almost a soft plastic,” wrote Stephen Harmon. “It looks great and will hold up if a lot of people use the space over the coming months. The chairs look weird to me. They were, however, very comfortable. I think when the public starts to see this it will be very popular.”
